Résumé : |
This book does not claim to be an official statement of a Quaker creed, for Quakers have no officials and no creeds. It attemps instead to uncover the essential characteristic Quaker attitudes and experience; and to determine at what points these are more relevant to the modern dilemna. […] This account of Quaker thought begins with the obstacles to firsthand religious experience raised by the intellectual and emotionnal habits of a scientific age; and proceeds to an account of what Quakers have in fact experienced. It deals briefly with their origins, and more fully with the permanent elements in their discoveries, in particular the light they throw on the problems of individuality in community and of conflict in personal, economic and international relations.
